| Summary, etc. | Despite the advances in science, there are still many patients with serious illnesses. The general practitioner should have an important role in terms of support. However, it is not a reference for the majority of these patients. The objective of this study is to understand how a patient manages to overcome such an ordeal, through related experiences, in order to find points to improve with regards to the management by the GP. A qualitative survey by semi guided individual interviews with fourteen patients with an incurable disease was carried out. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and then coded. Being determined, having an entourage that is present, despite the difficulties are among the characteristics that help to develop strength of character to overcome this life ordeal. An empathetic approach based on the relationship between the patient and his general practitioner seems to be the request of the various patients interviewed. The disease is experienced by the patient as a permanent and solitary battle, mostly supported by the family and the medical specialists explaining the non-use of their GP, but their expectations and their desire to understand and be helped opens the way to interesting perspectives. |

| Summary, etc. | Malgré les progrès dans les explorations diagnostiques et les thérapeutiques entreprises, des pathologies restent potentiellement à évolution mortelle à court ou moyen terme. Le médecin généraliste devrait avoir une place importante en matière d’accompagnement. Néanmoins, il n’est pas une référence pour la majorité de ces patients. L’objectif de cette étude est de comprendre comment un patient arrive à surmonter une telle épreuve, à travers des vécus relatés, afin de trouver des points d’amélioration concernant la prise en charge par le médecin. Une enquête qualitative par entretiens individuels semi-dirigés auprès de quatorze patients atteints d’une maladie incurable a été réalisée. Les entretiens ont été enregistrés, retranscrits, puis codés. Être déterminé, avoir un entourage présent, malgré les difficultés font partie des caractéristiques aidant à développer une force de caractère pour surmonter cette épreuve de vie. Une approche empathique basée sur le relationnel entre le patient et son médecin généraliste semble être la demande des différents patients interrogés. La maladie est vécue par le patient comme un combat permanent et solitaire, majoritairement soutenu par la famille et les médecins spécialistes expliquant le non recours à leur médecin traitant, mais leurs attentes et leurs volontés de comprendre et d’être aidé ouvrent la voie à des perspectives intéressantes. |
