| Summary, etc. | Durkheim’s sociology and Roman Catholic thought are opposed in many aspects. Morality and law are very controversial issues among these systems as they both seek to define the links between moral frameworks and social relations. Joseph Delos and Georges Renard, lawyers and Dominicans of the Saulchoir studium in Paris during the inter-war period, attempted to resituate the conflict through the promotion of Maurice Hauriou’s theory of the institution and, beyond that, of the philosophy of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Although they were unable to convince lawyers and sociologists, and even failed to create a school of thought inside their religious order, they nevertheless made an important contribution to the renewal of moral theology by opening it to sociological and legal approaches. |
