520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. While for many years of rural origin, Mexican immigration to the United States has dramatically increased and changed into mainly urban flows over the last 20 years. Usually temporary, migration leads to important reverse currency flows (family remesas) sent to Mexico households living in the migrants’ cities of origin. The local authorities seek to channel these flows towards employment generating productive investment. With this in mind, this article leans on the results of a survey carried out on a représentative sample of migrants who have returned to several medium-sized towns in the Central West région of Mexico – an area which has traditionally provided the largest contingents of migrant workers to North America. It seeks to analyse the revenues generated by migrant labour, monetary transfers and their use and, in particular, the investments which they generate, the employment created, as well as the changes in occupational status associated with these jobs.
