Summary, etc. Following a comparative approach, this dissertation examines Soviet foreign policy in order to unveil its effects in Latin America, a continent that instead of being a passive consumer of external influences became a major actor of the Cold War. Examining Moscow’s relationships with Chile and Cuba between 1959-1973, this thesis analyzes the particularities of political and cultural links, the “triangular interactions” between the three countries and assesses the Soviet presence’s impacts on local imaginaries.
