| Summary, etc. | Neo-institutional analysis, and in particular that of Douglass North, has attempted to return to the micro foundations of institutions. The analytical developments proposed by North and his colleagues focus on the role of mental models. However, they follow the cognitivist turn of the social sciences and let aside emotions. The article examines the contributions of John Dewey’s philosophical thought to an institutionalist conception that integrates the dynamics of emotions to enrich the conception of action and the analysis of the link between institutions and the individual.
