Summary, etc. | This article puts forward the idea that the home can be thought of as an envelope. An analogy can be drawn between the functions of the “home” envelope and those of the psychological envelope. A clinical case study is used to show that a psychotic patient can begin to act, think and feel as if their home is actually an element of their psychological envelope, particularly during a period of decompensation where the psychological envelope loses some of its effectiveness as a stimulus barrier. In any event, it may be useful when conducting home-based interviews to take into account how the patient uses his “home” envelope in the clinical relationship. |
