520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Mystics reduce to silence their bodies and souls and refuse human love in order to meet God after a spiritual crisis. In this way they are able to reconnect with the original type of worship, where the patriarchs of the Old Testament spoke directly to their God. These men and women, at the margins of their Church, entertain an erotic relation with Christ that leaves marks: stigmata and poetry-inspiring nostalgia. These mystics ask the question of the essential distinction between pleasure and jouissance, between a bland physical sensation and the expectation of a dazzling experience. In the mystic agenda (“to be possessed by God”) we find the roots of psychoanalysis, which is not the sexologist’s sexuality but the Freudian articulation of Eros and Thanatos.
