Summary, etc. Just a few weeks after the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were held in Paris, the International Olympic Committee confirmed France as host of the 2030 Winter Games. The decision had been made provisionally in July, but the highly successful organization of the summer games in Paris doubtless played a role in October’s confirmation since, despite months of doubt and disparagement, the event had barely finished before it was being hailed almost unanimously as a great success.Five months later, what can we learn from the Paris Games of 2024—e.g. about soft power effects, both for France and for the organizing city, Paris (with regard to sport, tourism, the environment, society etc.)? What have been the resonance and impact of the games at the geopolitical level and, more broadly, in terms of international relations? Futuribles put these questions to Pascal Boniface, the Director of the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS), and also a recognized analyst on sporting issues at the international level. In this interview he describes the main takeaways from the Paris Olympics of 2024.
