| Summary, etc. | This article explores the place of video games in psychoanalytic clinical practice, looking at them as potential tools for mediation and as mediators of therapeutic dialogue. An analysis of the film Reign over Me and the game Shadow of the Colossus illustrates how video games can symbolize the repetition of trauma and support the process of mourning. Using the difference between the “mode of relationship” and the “use” of the object proposed by D.W. Winnicott, this article also examines the place of video games in the therapeutic relationship and the clinical and technical consequences that this differentiation implies. Finally, it addresses the metaphorical dimension of the video game as an object symbolizing a generational difficulty in working out separation, redoubling that presupposed by the period of adolescence. |
