Summary, etc. The recovery process is often seen as a return to a previous state of health. However, vital phenomena are not reversible. This observation led the philosopher of medicine, Georges Canguilhem, to develop a conception of recovery as the creation of new norms. His conception was inspired by Nietzsche’s intuitions and enables us to better understand the latter's famous statement: “What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.”
