| Summary, etc. | «América Latina» es la expresión más utilizada para definir la región. Sin embargo, el término tiene un origen eurocéntrico que se remonta menos de dos siglos atrás para designar las regiones colonizadas por las naciones llamadas «latinas» y diferenciarlas de la América anglosajona, excluyendo así la historia de los pueblos originarios y las poblaciones afrodescendientes. Si bien las perspectivas decoloniales y varias organizaciones indígenas promueven actualmente el término «Abya Yala», consideramos necesario utilizar, como mínimo, el plural para enfatizar la diversidad de las Américas Latinas, o incluso optar por un término más inclusivo hablando, por ejemplo, de «las Américas y los Caribes indo-afro-latinos». |
