Summary, etc. This paper presents a clinical exploratory research aimed at preventing early maternal postpartum depression (DPP). One of the effects of the DPP is the maladjustment in the mother-newborn relationship. We used two methods of attentive infant observation: Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale and observations of breastfeeding, as therapeutic observations. A “nonlinear jump,” three weeks after birth, supported the hypothesis that there must be an adjustment between the real baby and the infantile anxieties in the internal mother’s world. One of the components of the DPP could be described as a failure in the contact with an imago of a well-fed baby. Joint observation fostered the representation of a benevolent internal baby and alleviated maternal depression.
