| Summary, etc. | Since the 1980s, the use of video for public security purposes has continued to expand around the world, and in France, following a number of trends and dynamics: through a territorial spread, from metropolitan areas to rural areas; in bursts, thanks to major events, in particular the Olympic Games; through technological opportunities and new forms of capture (facial recognition, so-called algorithmic video, drones); through social dynamics, when it is taken over by citizens (connected doorbells, lateral surveillance). In France, while the legal framework has been developed in parallel, few real evaluations have been carried out. |

| Summary, etc. | L’usage de la vidéo à des fins de sécurité publique n’a eu de cesse de se déployer dans le monde, et en France, depuis les années 1980, suivant plusieurs logiques et dynamiques : par un étalement territorial, depuis les métropoles vers les territoires ruraux ; par à-coups, à la faveur de pics événementiels, notamment les Jeux olympiques ; par opportunités technologiques, et de nouvelles formes de captation (reconnaissance faciale, vidéo algorithmique, drones) ; par des dynamiques sociales, lorsqu’elle est prise en charge par les citoyens (sonnettes connectées, surveillance participative). En France, alors que l’encadrement juridique s’est construit conjointement, peu de véritables évaluations ont été mises en œuvre. |
