| Summary, etc. | The author returns to a little-known reference by Darwin taken up by Freud in Totem and Taboo: Savage’s article on the gorilla. He establishes how Darwin uses it to propose his hypotheses about the origin of man. He shows that Darwin takes into account the way of life of gorillas but also those of other animal species as well as current humans. Darwin inserts it in the debates on law of combat, polygamy, sexual selection, prohibition of incest, descent. Then the author argues that Freud takes Darwin in a different perspective to conceive human access to culture, where the representation of the gorilla remains important. |

| Summary, etc. | L’auteur revient sur une référence méconnue de Charles Darwin reprise par Sigmund Freud dans Totem et tabou : l’article princeps de Thomas Savage sur le gorille. Il établit la façon dont Darwin s’en sert pour proposer ses hypothèses sur l’origine de l’homme. Il montre que Darwin prend en considération le mode de vie des gorilles mais aussi celui d’autres espèces animales ainsi que des hommes actuels. Darwin l’insère dans les débats sur la loi du combat, la polygamie, la sélection sexuelle, l’interdit de l’inceste, la descendance. Puis l’auteur fait valoir que Freud reprend Darwin dans une perspective toute différente pour concevoir l’accès humain à la culture, où la représentation du gorille conserve une importance. |
