Summary, etc. Arendt’s reflections on truth are very interesting to think about critical teaching, this is what Fabre has already shown in his 2019 book. Truths of fact are indisputable while truths of reason are constructed and can be submitted for discussion. This is what we experienced with students having to visit the martyr village of Oradour-sur-Glane. Living nearby, some of them are convinced that another village should have been massacred but that the Germans would have been wrong in 1944. This is what many people already believed at the time. This persistent rumor is often deconstructed by teachers since the evidence leaves no doubt. We wanted to go further and show the potential of a problematized historical inquiry into the reasons for the existence of this rumour.

Summary, etc. Les réflexions d’Arendt sur la vérité sont très intéressantes à utiliser pour penser l’enseignement critique, c’est ce que Fabre a déjà montré dans son ouvrage de 2019. Les vérités de fait sont incontestables alors que les vérités de raison sont construites et peuvent être soumises à la discussion. C’est ce que nous avons expérimenté avec des élèves de collège devant visiter le village martyr d’Oradour-sur-Glane. Habitant à proximité, certains d’entre eux sont persuadés qu’un autre village aurait dû être massacré, mais que les Allemands se seraient trompés en 1944. C’est déjà ce que croyaient de nombreuses personnes à l’époque. Cette rumeur persistante est souvent déconstruite par les enseignants puisque les preuves ne laissent aucun doute. Nous avons voulu aller plus loin et montrer les potentialités d’une enquête historienne problématisée sur les raisons de l’existence de cette rumeur.
