| Summary, etc. | Arising out of research on the annexation of “La Zone” to Paris in 1919 and on the modalities of its disappearance, principally under the Vichy Regime, the article exploits the rich corpus of photographs put together by the urban design services of the Seine Prefecture. It aims to redress the misery-evoking image of this urban space by counter-employing the photographic record. By cross-comparison with archival material, the analysis of the successive social usages of the photographs opens new channels for understanding why some of these images became iconic in describing the Zone. |

| Summary, etc. | Partant d’une enquête sur l’annexion de la zone à Paris en 1919 et sur les modalités de sa disparition, principalement sous le régime de Vichy, l’article s’appuie sur un corpus de photographies constitué par les services d’urbanisme de la préfecture de la Seine. Il s’agit de remettre en cause l’image misérabiliste de cet espace urbain en utilisant à contre-emploi la photographie. Grâce au croisement avec les dossiers d’archives, l’analyse des usages sociaux successifs des photographies ouvre des pistes pour comprendre pourquoi certaines d’entre elles sont devenues iconiques pour parler de la zone. |
