| Summary, etc. | This socio-historical study aims to shed light on the evolution of a form of leisure within a social space that features little in the scientific literature. It examines the evolution of football clubs in the rural, mountain plateau territory of Matheysine (Isère). Three distinct periods are observed. The present period is characterised by numerous club disappearances and mergers, as well as the creation of new clubs. While the connection between the local socio-economic space and the fates of football clubs is acknowledged, we demonstrate that more global factors need to be considered in order to understand their realities. Moreover, we emphasise that the production of the distinctive features and operation of each club is complex and reveals strategies for adapting to a changing environment. We believe that the production of these symbols and the operation of the clubs remain accessible to working-class populations and contribute to a process of territorialization and patrimonialization. |

| Summary, etc. | Esta investigación sociohistórica se orienta a esclarecer la evolución de una forma de ocio en un espacio social poco visible en la literatura científica. Se trata de examinar la transformación de los clubes de fútbol en el territorio rural de media montaña de Matheysine (Isère). El periodo analizado en el artículo se caracteriza por numerosas desapariciones y fusiones, pero también por creación de nuevos clubes. Si la proximidad entre el espacio socioeconómico local y el destino de los clubes ya se ha estudiado en la literatura, demostramos que deben tenerse en cuenta otros factores para comprender su funcionamiento y sus influencias. Sobre todo, destacamos que las producciones simbólicas y el funcionamiento de los clubes son complejos y revelan estrategias de adaptación a un entorno cambiante. Pensamos que la producción de estos símbolos y el funcionamiento de los clubes siguen siendo accesibles a las clases populares y forman parte de un proceso de patrimonialización y territorialización. |

| Summary, etc. | Cette recherche sociohistorique vise à éclairer l’évolution d’une forme de loisir dans un espace social peu visible dans la littérature scientifique. Il s’agit d’examiner la transformation des clubs de football dans le territoire rural de moyenne montagne de la Matheysine (Isère). La période observée dans l’article est caractérisée par de nombreuses disparitions de clubs, des fusions, mais aussi des créations. Si la proximité entre l’espace socio-économique local et la destinée des clubs est déjà étudiée dans la littérature, nous montrons que d’autres facteurs sont à prendre en compte pour appréhender leurs fonctionnements et leurs influences. Surtout, nous mettons en évidence que la production des traits distinctifs et le fonctionnement des clubs sont complexes et révèlent des stratégies d’adaptation à un environnement changeant. Nous pensons que la production de ces symboles et le fonctionnement des clubs demeurent accessibles aux classes populaires et participent à un processus de patrimonialisation et de territorialisation. |
