| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet inventaire dénombre le bétail estival détenu par une centaine de familles de la paroisse de Château-Queyras (Hautes-Alpes). Élaboré pour la levée d’une taxe communale, il est annexé au registre des syndics de cette communauté. Chaque famille dispose généralement d’une ou deux vaches, d’un porc, d’un âne ou d’un mulet, et de quelques chèvres. Plus nombreux, les ovins fournissent quant à eux des produits destinés au marché : laine, fromage, et agneaux. Si le cheptel à finalité domestique est comparable d’une famille à l’autre, il n’en va pas de même des troupeaux à vocation commerciale. L’inventaire révèle l’existence d’un groupe d’éleveurs aisés, lui-même dominé par quelques propriétaires de grands troupeaux. Il nous renseigne également sur les pratiques de l’élevage montagnard : transhumance estivale, mise en pension, ou engraissement de jeunes animaux. |

| Summary, etc. | This inventory enumerates the summer cattle owned by a hundred or so families from the parish of Château-Queyras, Hautes-Alpes. It was drawn up in order to collect a communal tax, and annexed to the register of the syndics of the community. Most frequently, a family’s holdings would include one or two cows, a pig, a donkey or a mule, and a few goats. Sheep, more numerous, provided marketable goods such as wool, cheese, or lamb. While the cattle for use in the household was similar from one family to the next, such was not the case for commercially oriented flocks. The inventory brings to light a group of well-off cattle-raisers, itself dominated by a few owners of large flocks. We can also gather indications on the practices of moutain cattle-raising, such as summer transhumance, outside boarding, or fattening the young. |
