| Summary, etc. | Pendant la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939), l’évacuation de milliers d’enfants en France pose aux responsables gouvernementaux espagnols et à leur partenaire français une question critique : faut-il s’inquiéter du maintien en exil de l’identité nationale de ces enfants évacués ? Selon les moments et les acteurs, l’identité nationale des enfants espagnols est pensée tantôt en termes biologiques, tantôt en termes plus culturels, ce qui implique des politiques différentes sur le terrain. Cet article fournit un nouvel exemple de l’ancrage de la pensée nationaliste, et même eugéniste et raciale, dans la gauche européenne, et des angoisses suscitées par le risque de « dénationalisation » des enfants déplacés de guerre pendant le premier 20e siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | During the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), the evacuation of thousands of children to France led Spanish government officials and their French counterparts to examine whether they should be concerned about these children possibly losing their national identity. During the course of the war, various actors answered this question differently, viewing the national identity of Spanish children in variously biological terms or cultural terms, which led to divergent policies on the ground. This article provides a new example of the strength of nationalist and even eugenic and racial thought in European left-wing politics, and of the anxieties aroused by the “denationalization” of children displaced by war during the early 20th century. |
