| Summary, etc. | Endometriosis is a progressive and chronic gynecological disease, characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, which can colonize and develop in an invasive and metastatic way on neighboring organs. The disease generates real psychological changes, prompting us to question the impact of social support and coping strategies on patients’ quality of life. 550 women between the ages of eighteen and fifty-four diagnosed with endometriosis responded to questionnaires assessing social support (SSQ-6), coping strategies used for dealing with stress caused by the disease (WCC-R), quality of life (MOS SF-36), and sociodemographic and biomedical data. Our analyses show that social support and coping strategies focused on the problem are positively correlated with quality of life. Regression analyses also show that these variables are determinants of optimal quality of life. These results endorse the idea that subjective assessment of perceived social support and the use of specific adjustment strategies have an impact on the quality of life of women affected by endometriosis. |
