| Summary, etc. | Objective: To evaluate the implementation of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures at Allada District Hospital, Benin, in 2023. Methods: A cross-sectional evaluative study was conducted in 2023. The primary study population included the various departments of Allada District Hospital, healthcare providers, cleaning staff, and hygiene and sanitation personnel. The secondary population comprised administrative staff and outpatients. Participants were selected using purposive and convenience sampling, as appropriate. IPC implementation was assessed against national IPC standards and objectives, structured into three components: structure, process, and outcomes. Results: Sixteen departments of Allada District Hospital were assessed. The structure and process components were rated acceptable, with scores of 61.71 % and 64.06 % respectively. However, the outcomes component was rated insufficient. Major gaps included the absence of a formal infection control plan, inadequate human resources, and the lack of functional hand hygiene facilities. Conclusion: Overall, IPC implementation at Allada District Hospital was insufficient. Strengthening hand hygiene practices, supported by continuous training and adequate resources, should be prioritized to ensure significant improvements in infection prevention and control. |
