| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | From the late 1880s onwards, Jewish women participated in the emergence of a “feminist consciousness” in Europe, the United States, and Palestine. Some of them chose general movements; others chose to found Jewish organizations. The latter are characterized by their diversity of claims and positions. Neglected by historians, these Jewish women created a network of international relations and exchanges and provided a new vision of women’s place in Jewish communities. Although they lost ground from the 1920s onwards, they paved the way for Jewish women activists in the 1960s, who opened a new chapter in the history of feminist struggles, and in the process, inadvertently obscured the accomplishments of their predecessors. |
