| Summary, etc. | Forests are complex ecosystems with multiple ecological, economic and social functions. This ecosystem is now being turned upside down in the context of climate change and the desire to move towards carbon neutrality. Carbone 4 worked with the forestry and wood industry in 2023 for a year, in conjunction with France Bois Forêt, Codifab and Copacel and with the support of the CSF Bois, to collectively build a scenario for the industry that would meet these challenges and articulate ‘wood-biomass’ supply and demand for mainland France by 2050.This ‘major industry’ project is unprecedented in terms of the exhaustive scope of its analysis and the involvement of all the players in the forestry-wood value chain. The resulting convergence scenario provides a unifying vision for the future of the industry. It outlines a ridge to climb, demanding in terms of the multiple transformations it requires to reach its destination, but coherent in terms of the sector’s contribution to the national economy, employment and the achievement of carbon neutrality, and thus meaningful for all its players, from upstream to downstream. |

| Summary, etc. | La forêt est un écosystème complexe avec de multiples fonctions écologiques, économiques et sociales. Cet écosystème est aujourd’hui bouleversé dans le contexte du changement climatique et de la volonté de tendre vers la neutralité carbone. Carbone 4 a accompagné la filière forêt-bois en 2023 pendant un an, en lien avec France Bois Forêt, Codifab et Copacel et avec le soutien du CSF Bois, pour construire collectivement un scénario de filière faisant face à ces défis et articulant l’offre et la demande ‘bois-biomasse’ pour la France métropolitaine à horizon 2050.Ce travail en « grande filière » est inédit par l’exhaustivité de son périmètre d’analyse tout comme par la mobilisation de l’ensemble des acteurs de la chaîne de valeur forêt-bois. Le scénario de convergence qui en découle permet ainsi de structurer une vision fédératrice pour l’avenir de la filière. Il trace un chemin de crête à emprunter, exigeant par les multiples transformations qu’il nécessite pour arriver à bon port, mais cohérent quant à la contribution de la filière à l’économie nationale, à l’emploi et à l’atteinte de la neutralité carbone et ainsi porteur de sens pour tous ses acteurs, de l’amont à l’aval. |
