| Summary, etc. | Pour répondre aux critiques d’Henry Donneaud, nous développons ici notre précédente étude à propos de la fin propre du mariage selon saint Thomas, en nous appuyant sur un plus grand nombre de textes. Nous montrons, d’une part, l’exactitude de notre exégèse de ces textes et la cohérence de notre étude avec l’enseignement métaphysique de l’Aquinate ; d’autre part, nous prouvons que, selon saint Thomas, la procréation ne peut pas être la fin propre du mariage, mais que c’est à l’essence même de celui-ci, l’amitié des conjoints, union indivisible de leurs esprits et de leurs cœurs, que ce rôle revient. |

| Summary, etc. | To respond to the criticisms of Henry Donneaud, we develop here our previous study on the proper end of marriage according to St. Thomas, drawing support from a greater number of texts. On the one hand, we show the accuracy of our exegesis of these texts and the coherence of our study with the metaphysical teaching of the Aquinate. On the other hand, we demonstrate that, according to St. Thomas, procreation cannot be the proper end of marriage, but that it is its very essence, the role of end being exercised by the friendship of the spouses and the indivisible union of their hearts and minds. |
