| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The Thomism of the Lvov-Warsaw School and the Krakow CircleA properly Polish Thomism developed in the xxth century. It features primarily in the works of Jan Salamucha, a priest, Józef Bocheński, a dominican, and Jan Drewnoski, a layperson. They formed the « Krakow Circle ». Active in the 1930’s, before its somewhat official recognition in 1936, the Krakow Circle dissolved in 1939 when Germany from the West and the Soviet Union from the East invaded the Republic of Poland in order to wipe it from the map of Europe. This Polish form of Thomism survived however in the works of Father Bocheński until his death in 1995. After World War II, a significant interest in Saint Thomas was revived at the Catholic University of Lublin under Mieczysław Krą̨piec, op ; as well as at the Jagiellonian University under philosopher and theologian, priest and bishop and pope Karol Wojtyła ; and today in what is called the « consequent Thomism » of Professor Mieczysław Gogacz at Warsaw’s Cardinal Wyszyński University. The present article concentrates on Jan Salamucha and Józef Bocheński. Their interpretation of Saint Thomas anticipates not only what is now known as « analytical Thomism », but « analytical philosophy of religion » and « analytical theology » as well. |
