| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa religion chrétienne semble aujourd’hui en retrait de l’évolution du monde, du moins en Europe, comme si son message n’était plus adapté à notre modernité tardive. Du « désenchantement du monde » de Max Weber à « la sortie de la religion » de Marcel Gauchet, les analyses ont parié sur l’effacement du christianisme. Mais le procès de sécularisation historique a peut-être un autre sens. Si l’on admet, avec Levinas, que le « sens des sens » est celui où mènent tous les chemins, il y a peut-être dans la réflexion chrétienne une réserve eschatologique qui n’est pas épuisée. À l’inverse de ce que l’on a pu croire, le christianisme serait alors la religion de la sortie d’un monde séculier. |

| Summary, etc. | Today, in Europe at least, Christian religion appears to be set back from the evolution of the world, as if its message was no longer adapted to our late modernity. From Max Weber’s « disenchantment of the world » to Marcel Gauchet’s « end of religion », analyses have bet on the disappearance of Christianity. But the trial of historical secularization may have another sense. If we accept with Levinas, that the « sense of senses » is the one to which all paths lead, there may be an eschatological reserve which is not exhausted. Contrary to what is often believed, Christianity would then be the religion of the end of a secular world. |
