| Summary, etc. | Aristote condamnait la chrématistique (l’acquisition de l’argent) car, par principe sans limite, elle débordait inexorablement dans l’hubris. Le capitalisme (l’accumulation de l’argent) possède les mêmes caractéristiques, le progrès technologique étant le moyen de son illimitation. Il apparaît ainsi comme la dynamique par laquelle l’ensemble de la vie concrète est recouvert, et détruit, par des abstractions réalisées telles que le temps de l’horloge, l’espace industrialisé, le savoir scientifique mécanisé. Ce raisonnement vaut également pour l’abstraction « travail », dont l’accomplissement abouti à l’anéantissement aussi bien de la Terre que des activités vitales signifiantes, qui sont au cœur de l’existence humaine. |

| Summary, etc. | Aristotle condemned chrematistic (the acquisition of money for money) because, as a principle without limit, it inexorably overflowed into hubris. Capitalism (the accumulation of money) has the same characteristics, technological progress being the means of its unlimited nature. It thus appears as the dynamic by which the whole of concrete life is covered, and destroyed, by realized abstractions such as clock time, industrialized space, mechanized scientific knowledge. This reasoning also applies to the abstraction “work,” the accomplishment of which leads to the annihilation of both the Earth and the vital meaningful activities that are at the heart of human existence. |
