| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The links of the Covid-19 pandemic with the collapse of biodiversity provide an opportunity to reflect on the difficulties encountered in the negotiations of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), particularly those relating to its third objective: the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources, framed by the Nagoya Protocol. Along with conservation funding, the extension of the scope of the CBD to digital sequence information (DSI) is emerging as the main topic for discussion at the next Conference of the Parties (COP15). The article discusses the difficulties of adapting the Nagoya Protocol to the transformations of our societies due to digital and biotechnological innovations. It pleads for the CBD to be taken out of the commercial frame of reference in favor of an approach in terms of solidarity and commonality. |
