| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article propose une procédure qui permet de délimiter précisément des aires pertinentes d’intervention dans l’objectif de la mise en place de programmes de Maîtrise de la demande d’électricité (MDE) en milieu rural. La démarche adoptée privilégie les aspects géographiques de la demande sans pour autant négliger les facteurs fondamentaux qui décrivent la nature des usages et les infrastructures du réseau de distribution d’électricité basse tension. La desserte électrique rurale est achevée en France depuis 1970. Cependant, l’accroissement actuel des besoins d’investissement de l’électrification rurale a conduit les autorités publiques de tutelle à promouvoir la MDE en alternative aux renforcements coûteux des réseaux. Parmi les déterminants de la demande d’électricité et de son augmentation, le contexte géographique semble prépondérant. Il se manifeste par le rôle de l’environnement naturel et par celui des dynamiques locales de population. Suite à ce constat, une classification, utilisant les modèles de mélange et intégrant les contraintes de voisinage spatial, permet de délimiter précisément des bassins de consommation électrique. Statistiquement homogènes et géographiquement cohérentes, ces zones peuvent servir de points d’appui à des projets génériques de MDE. |

| Summary, etc. | The aim of this paper is to define precisely operational zones for the implementation of demand-side management (DSM) programmes for electricity transmission in rural areas. The approach implemented emphasises the geographical aspects of demand without neglecting fundamental aspects pertaining to customer end uses and the low-voltage grid. In France, the grid was extended to rural areas in 1970. However, the current increase in investment needs for the rural grid has prompted the regulatory authorities to promote DSM as a less costly alternative to grid reinforcement. Among the determinants of electricity demand and its increase, the geographical context seems preponderant. It encompasses the natural environment and local population trends resulting from changing lifestyles. To take this into account, a classification based on Gaussian mixture models and integrating spatial constraints of the neighbouring area can be used to identify areas of high electricity consumption. |
