| Summary, etc. | Alors que les débats sur l’urbanisation en Inde se focalisent généralement sur les cas des très grandes métropoles, cet article prend le parti de s’intéresser aux cas des petites agglomérations, lesquelles témoignent de dynamiques tout aussi révélatrices des transformations urbaines contemporaines. L’étude de l’une d’entre elles, Kartarpur, une petite ville d’artisans menuisiers, permet de mettre en lumière le dynamisme et la fragilité de cette urbanisation non-métropolitaine. L’essor remarquable d’une petite industrie de l’ameublement y est issu d’un ensemble de facteurs endogènes ancrés dans un territoire particulier et hors des schémas développementalistes métropolitains. L’analyse montre que l’organisation territoriale en cluster des artisans locaux, en assurant la complémentarité des savoir-faire traditionnels, a permis de créer une véritable valeur ajoutée à un système qui se retrouve désormais bouleversé par les évolutions libérales actuelles. |

| Summary, etc. | Urbanisation in India is usually perceived as the problem of huge metropolises. The focus of this paper is on small conurbations in which specific urban dynamics emerge and contribute also to the current urban transformations. One of them, Kartarpur, is a small cluster-city of craft woodworkers. It shows both the dynamism and the fragility of this non-metropolitan urbanisation. The remarkable expansion of a small furniture industry is linked with endogenous factors rooted in a specific territory, far away from metropolitan development schemes. The analysis shows how a territorial cluster of local craftsmen, putting together their traditional know-how, allowed the creation of a real added-value which is upset by current neo-liberal evolutions. |

| Summary, etc. | Mientras que los debates sobre la urbanización en la India se centran generalmente en los casos de las ciudades muy grandes, este artículo decide interesarse por los casos de las pequeñas aglomeraciones, que dan testimonio de dinámicas igualmente reveladoras de las transformaciones urbanas contemporáneas. El estudio de uno de ellas, Kartarpur, una pequeña ciudad de artesanos carpinteros, permite poner de relieve el dinamismo y la fragilidad de esta urbanización no metropolitana. El notable impulso de una pequeña industria del mueble resulta allí de un conjunto de factores endógenos arraigados en un territorio particular y fuera de los esquemas desarrollistas metropolitanos. El análisis muestra que la organización territorial en cluster de los artesanos locales, que ha garantizado la complementariedad de los saberes técnicos tradicionales, ha permitido una verdadera creación de valor añadido a un sistema que ahora se encuentra trastocado por las evoluciones liberales actuales. |
