| Summary, etc. | L’explosion du thème de la société de la communication cache une série d’importantes lacunes analytiques, surtout en ce qui concerne son articulation avec les problèmes scolaires. C’est en partant de ce constat qu’a été conçu ce dossier, comme une discussion dépassionnée, à l’épreuve des faits, de certains points litigieux ou obscurs. Quatre d’entre eux sont notamment abordés : un retour critique sur la notion de savoir dans une société de la connaissance ; les défis que les technologies de l’information et de la communication posent à la forme scolaire ; les relations entre les connaissances scolaires ou les diplômes et l’insertion professionnelle ; enfin, les possibilités et les limites d’une politique active de formation continue pour une réforme de l’État-providence. |

| Summary, etc. | The knowledge society and school : grounds for debate The society of communication, a currently highly successful topic, overlooks a number of crucial analytical points, especially its relation with the school agenda. This fact provided the basis for this survey of some contentious or obscure points. Four of them are tackled in particular : a critical analysis of the notion of knowledge in a knowledge society ; the challenges that the school system faces on account of the information and communication technologies (ICT) ; the relations between school knowledge or degrees and professional integration ; finally, the opportunities and the limits of an active policy of continuing education for a reform of the welfare state.
