| Summary, etc. | Le terme “société de la connaissance” a remplacé le terme plus ancien de “société de la communication”, né dans l’immédiat après-guerre, sans que son sens initial en ait été affecté. La première hypothèse autour de laquelle cet article s’articule est que le contenu de cette notion a pris naissance au sein du paradigme informationnel cybernétique qui s’est formé dans les années 1940. La deuxième hypothèse est que la confusion entre science et connaissance qui s’installe à la Renaissance se déploie depuis dans un contexte de réduction de la science à l’informationnel, et de dévalorisation du politique, c’est-à-dire, in fine, de l’opinion, comme modalité légitime de connaissance. La notion de société de la connaissance est donc le produit d’un double déplacement : d’une part la connaissance est assimilée à la science, plus précisément à la technoscience, d’autre part la connaissance scientifique est réduite à l’information, cette dernière étant toujours prise dans la perspective opérationnelle des nouvelles technologies. |

| Summary, etc. | The knowledge society: history of a double reduction The term “knowledge society” has replaced the older term of “communication society” which was coined just after the second World War. However its initial meaning has not changed. The first hypothesis on which this paper is based is that the content of this notion took root within the cybernetic informational paradigm which developed in the 1940s. The second hypothesis is that the confusion between science and knowledge which became established at the Renaissance has since developed within a context of reduction of science to information and of depreciation of politics, namely of opinion as the legitimate mode of knowledge. The notion of knowledge society is thus the result of a double shift – on the one hand knowledge is assimilated to science, more precisely to technoscience, on the other hand scientific knowledge is reduced to information taken in the operational perspective of new technologies. |
