| Summary, etc. | Le choix des États-Unis dans l’analyse de certaines formes de migrations et communautarisation territoriale des personnes âgées est motivé par l’existence d’importantes recherches sur les mouvements migratoires à la retraite outre-Atlantique, mais aussi par l’émergence et le développement de « villages senior » comme formes concrètes de communautés fermées ( gated communities). Ces « cloisonnements » territoriaux s’inscrivent dans une tradition pluriséculaire d’ouverture aux diverses formes de communautarisme qui prirent forme aux États-Unis d’Amérique avec la colonisation et au fil des différentes vagues migratoires qui les renforcèrent. L’intérêt de l’observation des processus à l’œuvre porte ici sur l’émergence de l’âge perçu comme critère pertinent non seulement pour la définition de flux migratoires, mais aussi pour la création de regroupements humains et l’aménagement de lieux de vie où, ainsi rassemblés, les individus pensent mieux maîtriser leur vieillissement pour s’inscrire dans un modèle particulier de « bien vieillir ». |

| Summary, etc. | Migration and territorial communitization of retired people in the United States Choosing the United States for analysing certain types of migration and territorial communitization of retired people is prompted by the existence of significant research carried out on migratory movements upon retirement in the United States, and also by the emergence and development of “senior citizen villages” as veritable illustrations of gated communities. These territorial “partitions” are part of a multisecular tradition of openness towards diverse types of communities which established themselves in the United States during colonization and which flourished with the various migratory waves. It is relevant here to observe these processes at work, where age emerges as pertinent criteria, not only for defining migratory flows but also for generating groups of people and for creating living spaces where, in their groups, these individuals, believing they control their aging process better, are part of a specific model of “aging well”. |
