| Summary, etc. | L’étude des comportements et des pratiques résidentiels constitue un bon moyen d’analyser les transformations sociales, démographiques et politiques. Alors que les aléas liés à la vie professionnelle sont les facteurs importants de la mobilité résidentielle, la retraite des baby-boomers modifie encore plus les causes de mobilité sans en supprimer la complexité ni la diversité. Une typologie de cinq comportements résidentiels a été mise en avant à partir des recherches initiées par le Puca (Plan urbanisme construction architecture) : mobilité résidentielle choisie ; stabilité résidentielle souhaitée ; mobilité contrainte ; assignation à résidence et incertitude résidentielle. La mobilité, lorsqu’elle est réalisée, peut être choisie ou contrainte ; elle peut également être souhaitée, sans être concrétisée. Le classement des causes de déménagement en grands thèmes (famille, logement, santé, économie, etc.), pour pratique qu’il soit, n’est pas pleinement satisfaisant, car il ne restitue pas la complexité des mécanismes qui sous-tendent la mobilité résidentielle. L’enquête Amare vise à saisir les choix et les contraintes s’imposant aux ménages, et plus généralement les fonctionnements complexes et évolutifs des trajectoires résidentielles selon les générations. Dans ce cadre, cet article étudie les tensions qui existent entre choix et contrainte dans les arbitrages mis en œuvre par les retraités interrogés, rencontrés dans les deux ans suivant leur déménagement. Dans un premier temps, il examine les cas où la mobilité s’est réalisée sous la pression d’un événement, sans oblitérer totalement la marge de choix. Dans un second temps, l’article est consacré aux situations de maîtrise de la mobilité, dont l’objectif est de renforcer un positionnement social. |

| Summary, etc. | Studying residential behaviour and practices is a good way of analysing social, demographic, and political transformations. While issues relating to occupational life are key factors in residential mobility, the retirement of baby-boomers further changes the causes of mobility without eliminating the complexity or diversity of the latter. This article highlights five types of residential behaviour based on the research initiated by the PUCA plan on urbanism, construction, and architecture: chosen residential mobility; desired residential stability; forced mobility; forced residence; and residential uncertainty. Achieved mobility may be chosen or forced; it may also be desired but without being achieved. While classifying the reasons for moving into major themes (family, housing, health, finances, etc.) may be practical, it is not entirely satisfactory as it fails to grasp the complexity of the mechanisms underpinning residential mobility. The AMARE survey seeks to understand the choices and constraints of households and, more broadly, the complex and shifting ways in which residential trajectories function according to generations. Against this backdrop, this article reviews the tensions that exist between choices and constraints in the trade-offs made by retired individuals in the two years after their move. It begins by examining cases in which people were required to move owing to a life event while not losing all their scope for choice. It then looks at situations of residential mobility control, the aim of which is to strengthen social positioning. |
