| Summary, etc. | RésuméCe texte a pour but d’examiner les origines de la civilisation du travail et son devenir. Une analyse succincte de la place du travail dans les sociétés antiques et dans celles antérieures à la révolution industrielle permet de différencier nettement ces sociétés de celles engendrées par cette révolution qui situe le travail à une place cardinale.Pourtant, depuis vingt-cinq ans, le travail, bien que toujours considéré comme important par le lien social et comme élément structurant des identités, n’est plus un « grand intégrateur » (Barel). L’auteur étudie les conséquences de la situation contemporaine afin d’examiner concrètement en quoi elle affecte les identités individuelles et collectives. Il conclut sur la nécessité de maintenir le travail (même aliéné) comme occupant une place essentielle au sein du fonctionnement de nos sociétés. |

| Summary, etc. | The aim of this text is to examine the origins of the civilisation of work and its future. A succinct analysis of the place of work in ancient societies and in those existing before the industrial revolution allows us clearly to differentiate these societies from those engendered by the revolution which places work in a cardinal position. Yet, for twenty-five years, work, although it is still considered to be important as a social link and as an element in the structuring of identity, has no longer been a “great integrator” (Barel). The author studies the consequences of the contemporary situation in order to examine concretely in what way it affects individual and collective identities. He concludes with the necessity to maintain work (even lost) as occupying an essential place at the heart of the working of our societies. |
