| Summary, etc. | L’article explore les implications philosophiques et politiques des premières traductions italiennes du Contrat social de Rousseau, publiées au moment des campagnes d’Italie (1796-1799). L’objectif est de montrer comment ces traductions jouèrent un rôle déterminant dans la réception – mais également dans la « censure » – de certaines problématiques de la réflexion politique de Rousseau, surtout pour celles qui concernent la notion de sujet, véritable clé de voûte de la philosophie de l’auteur du Contrat social. L’interprétation et la traduction du terme sujet impliquent la confrontation entre deux paradigmes historiographiques contrastés : Rousseau le théoricien de la subjectivité politique versus le « Rousseau totalitaire », ennemi de l’autonomie, politique et morale, du sujet. |

| Summary, etc. | This article explores the philosophical and political implications of the first Italian translations of Rousseau's Social Contract, published at the time of the Italian campaigns (1796-1799). The writer’s aim is to show how these translations played a decisive role in the reception - and in the « censorship » - of certain issues in Rousseau's political reflections, especially those dealing with the notion of subject, which was the keystone of his philosophy in the Social Contract. The interpretation and translation of the term « subject » implies a confrontation between two contrasting historiographical paradigms : Rousseau the theoretician of political subjectivity as opposed to the « totalitarian Rousseau », enemy of the political and moral autonomy of the subject. |
