520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Criminals and Subjects : the example of the bailiwick of Argentan (1720-1750)For the first time, the complaints lodged with the Argentan royal jurisdiction have been perused, using ten-year surveys dating from between 1720 and 1750. From this work, a picture of the judicial practices of its inhabitants emerges and a precise idea of their daily interactions. Is criminality a mirror of societies ? Could violence translate methods of socialization under the Ancient Regime ? Criminality is treated from this viewpoint rather than emphasizing violence through sensationalizing a single deed. Because crimes are first and foremost a story of People, whether they be accused, victims, witnesses, or judicial officials. Studying the interactions and the « crimes » committed enlightens us on the life in a small bailiwick in the first half of the eighteenth century.
