| Summary, etc. | En 1926, l’Action française est condamnée par le pape Pie XI, ce qui provoque un tournant décisif pour la ligue nationaliste et pour le comportement politique des catholiques français. En Seine-Inférieure, les répercussions de cette décision sont remarquables en raison de la proximité de l’archevêque de Rouen, André du Bois de La Villerabel, avec la ligue monarchiste. Cette dernière connaît durant les années 1920 son apogée politique et culturel dans les milieux conservateurs et catholiques. Dès lors, l’intervention pontificale bouleverse les relations entre le clergé, ses fidèles et les ligueurs maurrassiens dans un département encore marqué par un catholicisme politique. La condamnation pontificale tarde à s’imposer et les réactions contradictoires qu’elle suscite ont des conséquences à long terme sur l’audience de l’Action française en Seine-Inférieure. |

| Summary, etc. | In 1926, Action française was condemned by Pope Pius XI, which marks a turning point for the nationalist league and for the political actions of French Catholics. In Seine-Inférieure, owing to the proximity of the archbishop of Rouen, André du Bois de La Villerabel, to the monarchist league the repercussions of this decision are remarkable. This league, during the 1920s, reached its political and cultural peak in conservative and Catholic circles. From then on, the papal intervention overturned the relations between the clergy, their followers and the Maurrassian leaguers in a department still marked by political Catholicism. The political condemnation was slow to take hold and the contradictory reactions it provoked had long-term consequences on the audience of Action Française in Seine-Inférieure. |
