520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This article looks at one of the central signs in Bram Stoker’s novel: the marks left by Dracula’s fangs in the flesh of his victims. To puncture the skin is a way of punctuating the flesh. The marks are described in the minutest detail both in novel and film: two little holes or points which translate the ecstasy of the encounter with Dracula and which look like a colon. This punctuation mark throws into turmoil an entire system of power and aesthetics and refuses all closure. The vampire hunters must eliminate these dangerous plural marks which are also marks of plurality by replacing them with a single mark or full stop. We will study the strategies used by the hunters to control the subversive ecstasy introduced into the text by vampiric writing.
