| Summary, etc. | RésuméAlors que des instruments de surveillance couvrent le moindre mouvement sur notre planète, nous fermons les yeux face à l’insoutenable, même s’il se produit dans notre voisinage, à moins qu’il nous soit transmis dans les informations. Ce « détournement du regard » (Lacan) peut dégénérer en une véritable « malveillance » qui est au moins aussi dangereuse que la surveillance généralisée, calquée sur le schéma de la paranoïa. La malveillance peut montrer la souffrance sans la soulager, et en tant que non-assistance à personnes en danger, elle devient complice du crime. Passion de l’ignorance, elle entrave les savoirs censés élucider et combattre les sources de la violence, elle écrase le sujet responsable et prépare le terrain à une ségrégation toujours plus dure, en commençant par les populations les plus marginalisées. |

| Summary, etc. | Whereas the instruments of surveillance watch the slightest movements on our plane, we close our eyes in face of the unbeareable if it is not transmitted by the news on television and even if it happens in our own neighbourhood. This « turn away of the gaze » (Lacan) can degenerate into a real staring malevolence which is at least as dangerous as is the generalized surveillance modelled on the scheme of paranoia. This malevolence can exhibit suffering without relieving it and, as the refusal to help persons who are in danger, it becomes an accomplice of crime. As a passion for ignorance, it inhibits the knowledge which is supposed to elicit the sources of violence it annihilates the responsible subject and prepares the ground for a growing segregation which begins with the most marginalized populations. |
