| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Anorexia and bulimia are symptoms which use the imaginary space of the body to remedy the split between the real and language : the real of loss, for example, or of the impossibility of communicating with the other. This article will first present the symptom of bulimia in the psychosis of a young girl. The ritualistic meals of this subject are part of an interminable mourning for a lost brother, her double. The second part of the article focuses on a hysterical young woman’s anorexia which is explained as a symptom relating to her difficulty in being heard by her father. The « nothing », that strange object which the anorexic dines upon, is discovered in the words used by the analysand, within her discourse which insurges against the authority of the father while at the same time showing her suffering at not being taken seriously by him. The analysis equated her obsession with weight with her « lightness » in the eyes of her father. |
