| Summary, etc. | Dans les films cités ici d’Arturo Ripstein, le metteur en scène crée un monde inéluctable, sans au-delà et dont on ne sort pas pour accéder au paradis. Quant à l’enfer, on semble déjà y être. Aucune puissance transcendantale ne se mêle du destin des protagonistes, mais la superstition y fait ses ravages. Et l’idéal y échoue sur le réel. La politique n’y règle rien, la police et les justiciers s’y confondent. Et pourtant, les films de Ripstein n’obéissent pas au réalisme, dont on connaît les accointances avec les utopies intenables. Par contre, le cinéaste mexicain admet l’altérité, représentée par des figures lucides, dont le regard semble ironique par rapport à la persévérance dans le malheur de leurs prochains. La pulsion prend toujours le dessus sur la civilisation. |

| Summary, etc. | The immanence of RipsteinIn the films referred to in this paper, the director creates an unavoidable world, deprived of any beyond and out of which paradise does not exist. As to Hell, it seems that one is already in it. No transcendental agency interferes with the destiny of the characters, but while superstition wreaks havoc, the ideal flounders in the Real. Politics does not solve anything while police and upholders of the law mix up. And yet, his films do not comply with realism, the relations with untenable utopia of which are well known. Contrariwise, the Brazilian director acknowledges otherness, embodied by clear sighted characters whose ironic approaches of things contrasts with the perseverance in misfortune of their contemporaries. The drive will always get the upper hand over civilisation. |
