| Summary, etc. | Revenant sur trois siècles d’exégèse autour du Pilier des Nautes, de Paris, l’A. souligne les constantes de l’analyse : les personnages seraient des nautes, les reliefs seraient la paraphrase imagée de l’inscription et la figuration d’une activité intellectuelle ou politique d’un groupe professionnel. L’analyse très détaillée des différentes parties du monument conduit à refuser cette lecture, avec argumentation serrée. Il faudrait y reconnaître la figuration d’un mythe : une marche de héros, d’origine gauloise, vers des divinités féminines. Cette nouvelle lecture entraîne la révision de l’interprétation des consoles de pierre du frigidarium des thermes de Cluny : les proues évoquent le Mare Externum et la maîtrise de l’Océan, la suprématie de Rome. |

The A. refutes this through close study of the monument. This is rather an illustration of a myth, a procession of Gallic heroes to goddesses. This reading allows reinterpretation of the stone consoles in the frigidarium of the Baths of Cluny : the prows allude to the Mare Externum and Roman supremacy over the Ocean. |
