| Summary, etc. | RésuméCertains auteurs ont pensé que le bas-relief représentant un militaire, sur le canal de l’aqueduc de Fréjus, ainsi qu’un autre bas-relief, inséré dans le Pont-du-Gard, seraient des sortes de signatures des bâtisseurs ou exécuteurs de ces ouvrages. Certes, il existe des aqueducs construits ou réparés par des légionnaires (par exemple en Afrique du Nord), mais en réalité le relief de Fréjus représente un gradé de haut rang, tandis que celui qui a été inséré dans le Pont-du-Gard n’est rien d’autre que l’ébauche d’un gladiateur gaucher. |

| Summary, etc. | Some scholars believe that the low relief depicting a soldier, on the channel of the aqueduct in Fréjus, and another low relief, inserted in the Pont-du-Gard, could be the signatures of those who had built them (contractors, workers?). Some aqueducts have certainly been constructed by legionaries (examples in North Africa), but the relief of Fréjus depicts a person of rank, at least an officer, whereas the one in the Pont-du-Gard is no more than a rough sketch of a left-handed gladiator. |
