| Summary, etc. | Dans un contexte de diversification des missions, de hausse des effectifs étudiants et de ralentissement dans la création d’emploi, les universitaires sont inégalement concernés par les activités qui entrent en concurrence avec la recherche scientifique, dont l’enseignement représente une large part. Pour les enseignants-chercheurs en France exerçant à l’Université, le temps consacré à l’enseignement impacte en effet mécaniquement l’investissement dans la recherche et la construction de la carrière vers le professorat. Cet article cherche à montrer que le surinvestissement dans l’activité d’enseignement, défavorable à long terme en ce qui concerne la légitimation académique, n’est pas affaire de vocation ou d’engagement mais dépend d’abord de facteurs externes, dont le professionnel n’a pas la maîtrise, liés au contexte de travail, aux spécificités disciplinaires et à la faible ancienneté à l’intérieur du champ professionnel. Nos données sont tirées d’une large enquête en ligne réalisée fin 2014 auprès des enseignants-chercheurs de trois universités du Grand Est. |

| Summary, etc. | In the context of diversified missions, the growing student population and a slowdown in job creation in the universities, academics are unevenly concerned with activities that enter into competition with scientific research, of which teaching represents an important portion. For teachers-researchers within French universities, the time dedicated to teaching automatically impacts the investment in research and the construction of a career in professorship. Our article seeks to underline that over-investment in teaching activity, unfavorable in the long term in terms of academic legitimization, is not a matter of vocation or commitment, but first depends on external factors related to the work context, the disciplinary specificities and the low seniority within the professional field. Our data is drawn from a large online survey conducted at the end of 2014 by academics from three universities in Eastern France. |
