| Summary, etc. | Nous présentons la méthodologie de deux recherches-actions portant sur le devenir des enfants placés, au sein de deux institutions gérant, pour l’une, les placements en maison d’enfants à caractère social ou en placement familial, et pour l’autre, ceux en village d’enfants. À partir des données quantitatives et qualitatives, l’article est centré sur l’identification des leviers et des freins à l’insertion des jeunes ayant été accueillis dans ces types d’établissements. Au-delà de l’importance de la durée du placement, du cadre de vie, de l’environnement, les liens familiaux mais aussi ceux créés pendant le placement jouent un rôle central dans le parcours d’insertion de ces enfants devenus adultes. Le discours de ces personnes, reconstruit à partir de souvenirs, donne à voir comment la permanence dans le système de relations prévient les processus d’exclusion sociale. Ces résultats permettent d’ouvrir la réflexion sur de nouvelles formes d’intervention développant l’entraide, la solidarité, mais surtout le maintien de liens déterminants. |

| Summary, etc. | This article presents the methodology of two action research projects on the future of children in care carried out in two institutions: one a home for children with social difficulties in a family placement; the other a village for children. Presenting results from a quantitative and qualitative study, the article focuses on identifying obstacles and factors favorable to social insertion of young people having lived in this type of institution. While length of stay, environment and organization were found to be important, family relationships and those formed during the stay played a very central role in the pathways to insertion of these children when they became adults. The discourse of these persons, reconstituted from their memories, shows how the permanence of a system of relations prevents processes of social exclusion. These results lead to new thinking about forms of social intervention that could develop mutual help, solidarity and above all maintaining existing and important relationships. |
