| Summary, etc. | La problématique du vieillissement de populations immigrées fait depuis un certain temps déjà l’objet de réflexions publiques et d’analyses scientifiques. Toutefois, de nombreux travaux mettent en évidence une grande invisibilité de la population des immigrés âgés dans les discours des professionnels de l’action sociale mobilisés autour de problématiques d’accompagnement du vieillissement au sens large. L’objectif de ce texte est d’analyser les dispositifs représentationnels qui participent à la construction de la dialectique entre la visibilité et l’invisibilité paradoxales de cette population aux yeux des professionnels de l’action gérontologique. Ils trouvent leur source dans « l’aveuglement » des acteurs qui ne voient pas de personnes âgées immigrées là où elles sont ou telles qu’elles sont, mais aussi résultent de stratégies d’immigrés qui cherchent, souvent de manière très réfléchie, à se rendre invisibles pour échapper à des jugements sociaux stéréotypés et vécus comme une forme de « reconnaissance dépréciative » de la part des acteurs publics. |

| Summary, etc. | Issues about the ageing of immigrant populations have been studied both by public bodies and by the social sciences. However, many of these studies show that the population is invisible within the discourse of professionals working in the social field and implicated in work with the elderly in general. This article analyses the construction of social representations and constructs that contribute to the dialectic between visibility and paradoxical invisibility in the eyes of professionals working in the field of gerontology. They result from a form of “blindness” among actors, but also from immigrants’ own strategies as they seek to hide from stereotyped social judgments often experienced as a form of depreciative recognition by public actors |
