Dans le contexte culturel des années 1900-1914, les valeurs que ses responsables associent au camping sont dépourvues d’originalité. Permettant à ses pratiquants de se rapprocher de la nature, de faire preuve d’autonomie, de sens des responsabilités et de capacité à s’intégrer à une collectivité, le loisir nouveau répond à l’image que se forme d’elle-même la « bourgeoisie des talents » au sein de laquelle recrute le Touring Club. |

| Summary, etc. | Before 1914 the Touring Club de France explored several forms of camping : educational hiking, hermit life and fixed campsites. Its officials attributed to camping very common values in the cultural context of the years 1900-1914 : by enabling people to get a closer contact with nature, to show their autonomy and sense of responsibility, their ability to integrate into a collectivity, this new leisure activity corresponds to the image the « talents’ middle-classes », from which the Touring Club gains recruits, have of themselves. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungVor 1914 erprobt der Touring Club de France verschiedene Formen von Camping : die erzieherische Wanderung, das Eremitenleben und den festen Campingplatz. Seine Leiter schreiben Camping gewisse Werte zu, die in dem kulturellen Rahmen der Jahre 1900-1914 nicht original sind : indem sie Leuten ermöglicht, eine nähere Berührung mit der Natur zu finden, ihre Selbstständigkeit, ihr Verantwortungsgefühl und ihre Fähigkeit, sich in einer Gemeinschaft zu integrieren, entspricht diese neue Freizeitbeschäftigung dem Bild, das das « Bürgertum der Talente » von sich hat, in dem der Touring Club rekrutiert. |
