| Summary, etc. | Cet article traite d’une importante collection de trois mille proverbes français, italiens et espagnols sélectionnés et commentés par un auteur anonyme du xvii e siècle. Michael Kramer dans un article publié il y a quelques années dans cette même revue, a attribué l’ouvrage à Philibert de la Mare (1615-1687), placé sa composition entre les années 1645 et 1653, et émis l’hypothèse qu’il ne fut jamais terminé par son auteur, les proverbes étant passés de mode vers le milieu du xvii e siècle. On se propose ici de démontrer que le véritable auteur de cette collection de proverbes ne saurait être que Jean Lacurne (ca. 1570-1631), et que, bien que seule une partie du manuscrit nous soit parvenue, l’œuvre fut sans doute achevée et qu’elle le fut vers l’an 1630. L’article contient en outre une notice détaillée sur la vie et l’activité littéraire de Jean Lacurne. |

| Summary, etc. | Jean Lacurne: Author of the Proverb Collection from the French Manuscripts 1599 and 6170 of the National Library of France The present article deals with an important collection of three thousand French, Italian and Spanish proverbs that were collected and commented by an anonymous scholar of the seventeenth century. Michael Kramer, in an article published a few years ago in this journal, ascribed the work to Philibert de la Mare (1615-1687), dated its composition between 1645 and 1653, and proposed the hypothesis that it was never finished by its author, because proverbs fell out of fashion around the middle of the seventeenth century. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the true author of this collection of proverbs is Jean Lacurne (ca. 1570-1631), that the work has probably been finished, though only part of the manuscript has come down to us, and that it was completed around the year 1630. The article also contains a detailed account of Jean Lacurne’s life and literary activity. |
