| Summary, etc. | Amputés de leur dimension réformée dans la grande édition de 1711, les Voyages de Jean Chardin ont fait l’objet de lectures philosophiques qui sous-estiment la perspective confessionnelle selon laquelle l’auteur appréhende les religions orientales. Prenant pour exemple le discours sur l’islam chiite tel qu’il apparaît dans le texte non censuré de 1735, cet article s’intéresse aux rapports entre l’altérité religieuse que Chardin incarne en tant que huguenot et celle qu’il observe en tant que voyageur. Il dégage ainsi la présence constante d’un prisme réformé, dont le fonctionnement n’est toutefois pas uniforme, mais génère une grande variété de relations entre les identités religieuses. |

| Summary, etc. | Uncoupled from their Protestant dimension in the major edition from 1711, Jean Chardin’s Voyages were the subject of philosophical readings that underestimate the denominational perspective through which the author grasps Eastern religions. Taking as an example the discourse on Shiite Islam as it appears in the uncensored text of 1735, this article focuses on the relationship between the religious Otherness that Chardin embodies as a Huguenot and the one he observes as a traveler. It thus reveals the constant presence of a Protestant lens, the functioning of which is not uniform, but generates a wide range of interactions between religious identities. |
